Atlanta, GA- To support the Georgia Children’s Cabinet’s September Healthy Choices month, First Lady Deal and the Governor’s Office for Children and Families visited the Historic Westside Gardens of Atlanta. The Historic Westside Gardens is a collaborative partnership project with the Healthy Heart Coalition. The urban garden project seeks to empower the community by educating residents about farming practices, the benefits of a healthier diet, and promoting community service oriented education for youths and adults alike.

Geared toward anyone who works with or comes in contact with children and youth, this collaborative effort between the various governmental agencies is designed to create a unified vision and support system across Georgia.

Atlanta, GA- First Lady Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet continued to support September’s Healthy Choices Month with a series of events that highlight the importance of Governor Deal’s SHAPE initiative. Beginning a tour of several Atlanta Public Schools, the First Lady and Cabinet visited Garden Hills Elementary School.

Atlanta, GA- First Lady Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet continue to support September’s Healthy Choices Month by visiting the Boulevard WIC (a special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) Center for Health and Rehabilitation in downtown Atlanta on Thursday, September 25th. Visitors toured the facility and saw first-hand the important work being done to educate and train Georgia’s parents and children about the importance of choosing a healthy diet.

ATLANTA, Ga., (October 1, 2014) – If you’re looking for Georgia’s First Lady Sandra Deal during the month of October, just check a Pre-K Classroom anywhere in the state. In celebration of Georgia’s Pre-K Month, the First Lady will be reading to Pre-K classes statewide, starting Wednesday, October 1, 2014, in Cobb County. Her visits are presented by the Georgia Children’s Cabinet and Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

Atlanta- The Governor’s Office for Children and Families supported the Georgia Children’s Cabinet’s October Pre-K Month by visiting the Capitol Hill Enrichment Center in Atlanta to read to Pre-K classrooms. The children also received books for their classrooms courtesy of the First Lady of Georgia. GOCF is just one of the many agencies, organizations, and groups committed to the importance of early education and the literacy skills of Georgia’s children during the month of October.

Kennesaw, GA – In support of November Military and Veteran Appreciation Month, First Lady Sandra Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet visited the Kennesaw State University (KSU) Veterans Resource Center. The campus veterans center is just one of 23 campus centers throughout the University System of Georgia (USG), all established with the mission to support Georgia’s returning veterans.
