Georgia Children's Cabinet Visits the Historic Westside Gardens
Atlanta, GA- To support the Georgia Children’s Cabinet’s September Healthy Choices month, First Lady Deal and the Governor’s Office for Children and Families visited the Historic Westside Gardens of Atlanta. The Historic Westside Gardens is a collaborative partnership project with the Healthy Heart Coalition. The urban garden project seeks to empower the community by educating residents about farming practices, the benefits of a healthier diet, and promoting community service oriented education for youths and adults alike. Attendees toured the garden and received information about healthy food choices, how to maintain a healthy heart, and fun exercises such as the mini-tennis set First Lady Deal enjoyed hitting the ball on. Visitors of the event also heard a variety of speakers from community partners, children from local schools reading poems on healthy foods, and First Lady Deal.
