  • Mandated Reporters: Critical Links in Protecting Children in Georgia

  • Atlanta – Governor Nathan Deal today signed a proclamation declaring April “Child Abuse Prevention Month.” First Lady Sandra Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet, along with representatives from the Governor’s Office for Children and Families and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, joined the Governor in recognizing this month.  Attendees sported the color blue and carried Pinwheels for Prevention. These nationally recognized symbols help bring awareness to Georgia’s child abuse prevention initiatives.

  • First Lady Sandra Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet announced today the 2015 winners of the First Lady’s Servant’s Heart Award, recognizing outstanding selflessness and leadership in support of others.

  • This month Georgia Children’s Cabinet celebrates Governor Deal’s state goal of improving and expanding science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education with January STEM Education Month. Governor and First Lady Deal believe Georgia should focus on STEM education to not only advance our Georgia students to achieving more, but also to ensure that Georgia has future innovators for continued growth.

  • February is Service and Volunteerism Month for the Georgia Children’s Cabinet. The Cabinet was seeking a way to promote the importance of service as well as recognize those who selflessly contribute to bettering their community, thus the First Lady’s Servant’s Heart Award was created to celebrate these outstanding young people. First Lady Sandra Deal selected “With a Servant’s Heart” as her platform to encompass all groups who are working together to ensure our children and families have the opportunity to thrive.

  • GOCF will host its annual Youth Summit on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at SportsTowne in Macon, Georgia.  The summit’s theme is “Turn Up for Excellence.”  This daylong event is targeted to serve 1,000 middle and high school youth in grades 6 – 12 across the state.  Youth gather for an educational and entertaining summit with local, state, and national speakers who present on a range of positive youth development topics.  For more information about the event and how to register, please see the flyer.

  • The Governor’s Office for Children and Families is pleased to offer a Request for Proposal (RFP) to implement Second Step in middle schools across Georgia. Second Step is a universal, classroom-based curriculum designed to promote children’s social and academic success by decreasing problem behaviors, increasing students’ school success, and promoting social-emotional competence and self-regulation. Applications for the FY 15 Second Step Grant Program must be postmarked by May 15th and may only be submitted through certified mail or overnight delivery.
