Georgia’s children are our most important asset. Scientists who study the brain tell us that children who have nurturing relationships in safe, stable environments build healthy brain architecture and create a foundation for future success and well-being.

Atlanta, GA – “30 Years: Restoring the Balance of Justice” is the 2014 theme for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week across the state and country this April 6th through 12th. The state’s Multi-Agency Victim Services Partnership is inviting victims of crime to attend the annual ceremony and open house.

ATLANTA – The Governor’s Office for Children and Families (GOCF) promotes efforts to strengthen Georgia’s youth and families by providing information and awareness on youth development issues, including anti-bullying. This year, over 13 million children will be bullied at school, on the playground, online, on the bus, at home, through their cell phones and on the streets of their towns, making bullying the most common and prevalent form of violence young people face in this country today.

Atlanta, GA – This month Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month. First Lady Deal, Georgia Children’s Cabinet, Governor’s Office for Children and Families staff, and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia joined the Governor in recognizing this month. The attendees wore blue and held Pinwheels for Prevention, both the national symbols for child abuse prevention, to bring awareness to Georgia’s child abuse prevention initiatives.

The Governor’s Office for Children and Families, in partnership with Department of Human Services, is pleased to offer a Request for Proposal (RFP) to implement programs that provide parent education, support, and parent training for families with children from birth to age 16 in Georgia. Parent education, support and parent training provides services that help parents improve their parenting of and communication with their children with a goal of reducing risk of child abuse and neglect.

This month Georgia’s Children’s Cabinet made a special visit to Campbell Middle School to observe Cobb Alcohol Taskforce’s Sources for Strength program. The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce utilizes the Sources Prep Program to teach young people how to make better decisions about alcohol while reinforcing positive behavior. The program stresses the fact that a majority of teenagers in Georgia abstain from underage drinking through the use of interactive activities.
