Deals launch “Read Across Georgia” month

Gov. Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal were joined today by Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Commissioner Amy Jacobs, state School Superintendent Richard Woods and author Coy Bowles of the Zac Brown Band to kick off “Read Across Georgia” month, a campaign that supports increased childhood literacy in the state.

Deal announces judicial appointment

Gov. Nathan Deal this week announced the appointment of the Honorable Glen A. Cheney as Superior Court Judge of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit. Cheney will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable David L. Cavender. The appointment will take effect upon swearing in.

Deal announces sixth record year in international trade

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced that the state experienced a record increase in total trade for the sixth consecutive calendar year, maintaining its national ranking as the 11th-largest exporting state and 7th-largest importing state.

Deal: January tax revenues up 6.4 percent

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced that Georgia’s net tax collections for January totaled nearly $2.05 billion, for an increase of $119.3 million, or 6.4 percent, over January 2015. Year-to-date, net tax revenue collections totaled $12.49 billion, an increase of $1.02 billion, or 8.9 percent, compared to January 2015, when net tax revenues totaled almost $11.47 billion.
