Deal appoints Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity Executive Director

Gov. Nathan Deal today appointed Joy Lampley-Fortson as executive director and administrator of the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity following the announcement of current director Melvin Everson’s departure. Everson departs to take a position with Gwinnett Technical College. The appointment will take effect on April 17.

Lampley-Fortson is the Assistant Chief Counsel with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration & Customs Enforcement, Office of the Chief Counsel. She was previously an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Georgia from 2001 until 2007. Lampley-Fortson is the chair of the Leadership Georgia Board of Trustees and the chair of the State Bar of Georgia Local and Voluntary Bars Committee. She serves on the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism and the Judicial Council of Georgia’s Access, Fairness, Public Trust and Confidence Committee. Lampley-Fortson earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and a law degree from the University of Florida. She and her husband, Reggie, reside in Fairburn.
