Deal: FEMA approves first request for federal assistance
Gov. Nathan Deal today was notified that the state's first request for federal aid was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, including individual assistance for Dougherty County. This request was for federal aid following January 2 storms in the Albany area. Deal spoke with President Trump to thank him for approving this first request. The governor is heartened by his commitment to expediting Georgia's second request. The second request for FEMA aid was submitted following the severe storms on January 21 and 22, which resulted in 15 fatalities, severe injuries and major property damage.
