Deal announces ENERGY STAR and WaterSense sales tax holiday

September 30, 2016

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced the statewide ENERGY STAR and WaterSense sales tax holiday will take place Sept. 30 – Oct. 2.

“This tax-free holiday allows families in Georgia to save money on crucial household items that will conserve essential resources,” said Deal. “I encourage everyone to participate in this tax-free holiday to protect our environment.”

 Tax-exempt items include:

  • Dishwashers, clothes washers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, doors and windows that have the ENERGY STAR label and a purchase price of $1,500 or less.
  • Bathroom sink faucets, high-efficiency toilets and urinals, showerheads, faucet accessories, and weather- or sensor-based irrigation controllers that have the WaterSense label and a purchase price of $1,500 or less.

The state and local sales tax exemption will not apply to items purchased for trade or business use.
