Deal appoints five to boards
Don L. Waters, REACH Scholarship Board
Waters is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Brasseler USA. He is on the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, board of directors of Union Mission, Inc. and the Chatham County Hospital Authority. Waters earned a bachelor’s degree from Armstrong State College and a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Cindy, have two daughters and three grandchildren. They reside in Savannah.
Matthew T. Sawhill, Board of Natural Resources
Sawhill is the managing director of External Affairs for Atlanta Gas Light Resources. He is an active member of the Atlanta Chapter of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Sawhill was named to the UGA Alumni Association's 2014 "40 Under 40" list and was a member of the 2014 class of Leadership Georgia. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. Sawhill and his wife, Mary, have two children. They reside in Smyrna.
Hala Gaines Moddelmog, Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission
Moddelmog is president and chief executive officer of the Metro Atlanta Chamber. She previously was president of Arby’s Restaurant Group, president and chief executive officer of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and president of Church’s Chicken. Moddelmog earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University, a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and received an honorary doctorate from Georgia Southern University. She and her husband, Steve, have two children. They reside in Atlanta.
Mary Walker, Erosion and Sediment Control Overview Council
Walker is the assistant director and chief operating officer for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, where she oversees the agency’s water and air programs, cross-media functions and general agency operations. Her public service record includes work in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.Walker is a graduate of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leaders and is a state representative on the joint governance E-Enterprise Environment Leadership Council. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Georgia. Walker and her husband, Jon, have two children. They reside in Tucker.
Jan Paul, Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission (reappointment)
Paul is the executive director of Leadership Sandy Springs. She was co-founder and principal of iSquared Communications. Paul earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from University of Maryland. She and her husband, Rusty, have five children and four grandchildren.They reside in Sandy Springs.
