Deal appoints four to boards

John L. Quinn, Board of Trustees of the Subsequent Injury Trust Fund Commission (reappointment)

Quinn serves as regional counsel for the Communications Workers of America and is counsel to the labor and employment firm of Quinn, Conner, Weaver, Davies and Ruoco. He is a former co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Equal Employment Opportunity Committee and is a former chair of the Georgia Bar’s Labor and Employment Law Section. He currently serves as counsel to the Georgia Labor-Management Conference and is a member of the Georgia chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association. Quinn is also an elected commissioner for the City of Avondale Estates. He earned a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Kerry, have five children and six grandchildren. They reside in Avondale Estates.

Melissa Cantrell, Board of Architects and Interior Designers

Cantrell serves as a principal with CDH Partners, Inc. in Marietta. She is an executive board member of the Council of Educational Facility Planners and a board member of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce. Cantrell is a member of the Georgia Association of Physical Plant Administrators, the Georgia Association of School Facility Administrators and the United States Green Building Council. She participated in the 2012 class of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Leadership Institute and is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Cobb. Cantrell earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Architecture from Georgia Tech. She and her husband, Harold, have two children. They reside in Jasper.

Anne K. Smith, Board of Architects and Interior Designers (reappointment)

Smith is a partner in the firm of Lominack Kolman Smith Architects. She has practiced architecture in the Savannah area for over 25 years. Smith is the Southern Conference director of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. She also serves on the board of directors for the Savannah Speech & Hearing Center. Later this year, Smith will be inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Georgia Tech. She and her husband, Edgar, have one child. They reside in Savannah.

Jason Anavitarte, Board of Commissioners of the Commission on Equal Opportunity

Anavitarte serves as the government relations officer for the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia. He serves on the board of directors of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Chattahoochee Technical College Foundation and the board of trustees for People to People International. Anavitarte earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University and a master’s degree from Georgia Tech. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three children. They reside in Dallas.
