Deal appoints judges to Northern, Waycross and Coweta benches
Gov. Nathan Deal today announced the appointment of Chris Phelps, Kelly Brooks and Travis Sakrison to Superior Court judgeships within the Northern, Waycross and Coweta Judicial Circuits. The vacancies within the Coweta and Waycross Judicial Circuits were created by the passage of House Bill 742 during the 2014 session of the Georgia General Assembly. The vacancy in the Northern Judicial Circuit was created by the resignation of the Honorable John H. Bailey, Jr. The appointments will take effect upon swearing in.
Chris Phelps, Northern Judicial Circuit
Phelps has been engaged in private practice in Elberton since April of 1976. He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of West Georgia and his law degree from University of Georgia. He and his wife, Pamelia, reside in Elberton.
J. Kelly Brooks, Waycross Judicial Circuit
Brooks has been a partner at Adams and Brooks, Attorneys at Law since 1990. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and his law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his family reside in Folkston.
William Travis Sakrison, Coweta Judicial Circuit
Sakrison is the executive director of the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University and his law degree from Oklahoma City University. He and his wife, Marcy, live in Newnan with their children.
