Deal announces 2015 floor leaders

Gov. Nathan Deal announced today that Reps. Robert Dickey (R-Musella) and Terry Rogers (R-Clarkesville) will join Reps. Chad Nimmer (R-Blackshear) and Christian Coomer (R-Cartersville) on his House floor leader team while Sens. Butch Miller (R-Gainesville), Mike Dugan (R-Carrollton) and Sen.-elect John F. Kennedy (R-Macon) will team up with Sen. Bill Jackson (R-Appling) to carry the governor's bills in the Senate.

Robert Dickey

Dickey is serving his second term representing House District 140, which covers Crawford County and parts of Bibb, Houston, Monroe and Peach counties. A fourth generation peach and timber grower, Dickey and his father own Dickey Farms, Inc. He serves as a board member and past president of the Georgia Peach Council and is a member of the Georgia Commodity Commission for Peaches and the Georgia AgriBusiness Council. Dickey is a past president and treasurer of the National Peach Council. He has served on the Crawford County Industrial Authority for the last 20 years. He is a past president and a current board member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau and is a founding board member of the Crawford County Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia AgriLeaders Forum. He is a member of the board of directors of the SunTrust Bank of Middle Georgia and the Gordon College Foundation. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia and his master’s degree in Business Administration from Georgia College. Dickey and his wife, Cynde, have two children and are active members of Musella Baptist Church, where he is a deacon and chair of the finance committee and they both teach Sunday School.

Terry Rogers

Rogers has represented House District 10 since his election in November 2011. He currently serves as a deputy whip for the House Majority Leadership Caucus and as vice chairman of the State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. He is a member of the Appropriations, Defense and Veteran Affairs, Economic Development and Tourism, and Human Relations and Aging committees and also serves as a House representative to the Legislative Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee and the Professional Board Oversight Study Committee. Rogers is a past chairman of the Banks, Rabun and Habersham County Joint Development Authority, the Clarkesville Better Hometown board and is a past vice chairman of the Habersham Development Authority. He is a Rotarian and has served on the executive board of the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America and on the board of directors for Tallulah Falls School. In 2014, he was selected by Georgia Trend magazine as one of Georgia’s 100 Most Influential citizens. Rogers and his wife, Laura, have five children and two grandchildren. They live in Clarkesville and are active members of First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville, where he is an elder.

Butch Miller

Miller has represented Senate District 49 since his election in 2010 and in 2012 was elected as majority caucus chairman. He serves on the Appropriations, Assignments, Banking and Financial Institutions, Education and Youth, Ethics, Rules and Transportation committees. Miller serves on several special appointment committees, including the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Board, the Georgia World Congress Center Board and the MARTOC Oversight Committee. He is a member of the Gainesville Rotary Club and is a volunteer and board member of numerous trade, nonprofit and philanthropic causes. Miller was recently named Gainesville Rotary Man of the Year. A businessman, Miller joined the team of veteran auto dealer Milton Martin in 1993. In 1997, Miller and Jim Foote acquired Martin’s Honda franchise that has become one of the leading dealerships in the state. Miller and his wife have three sons and attend Lakewood Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Mike Dugan

Dugan is a local contractor at the Carrollton branch of RA-LIN and Associates. In the Senate, Dugan represents District 30, which includes portions of Carroll, Douglas and Paulding counties. Dugan is the vice chairman of the Government Oversight Committee, secretary of the Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committee and serves as a member of the Economic Development and Transportation committees. Prior to his election in the Senate, Dugan was president of the Carrollton Kiwanis Club and served on the executive board of the Carrollton Housing Authority and West Georgia Athletic Foundation Executive Committee. Dugan is a veteran of the U.S. Army, with more than 20 years of service before his retirement as a lieutenant colonel in 2008. During his career, he was deployed to more than 32 countries, including hostile fire deployments in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Dugan graduated from the University of West Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in History and a master’s degree in Organizational Development. He and his wife, Missy, have two children and are members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Carrollton.

John F. Kennedy

Kennedy is the senator-elect for Senate District 18. He is currently the managing partner at the Macon-based law firm of James-Bates-Brannan-Groover, LLP where he specializes in complex commercial litigation, business transactions and business disputes. Kennedy has been appointed by many judges around the state to serve as a court receiver and is entrusted to manage and protect businesses and their assets for investors and the public. Kennedy serves on the board of directors of the Macon Civic Club and serves on the executive board of directors for the Central Georgia Council Boy Scouts of America. He has served as president of the Macon Bar Association and is a member of the board of governors for the State Bar of Georgia. Speaker David Ralston appointed Kennedy to the Immigration Enforcement Review Board in 2013. Kennedy is a class of 2000 graduate of Leadership Macon and a 2007 graduate of Leadership Georgia. He graduated from Mercer University with a degree in Economics in 1987 and earned his law degree from Mercer University School of Law in 1990. Kennedy and his wife, Susan, have two children. They reside in Bolingbroke and are active members of Ingleside Baptist Church.
