Deal appoints five to boards

Carol “Missy” Burgess, Board of Directors of Georgia Lottery Corp.

Burgess is the director of Island Sales & Sponsorships at Lake Lanier Island Resorts. She has served on various boards at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and is a former chairman of “Friends,” a fundraising organization for CHOA. Burgess earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Marketing from Georgia State University. She and her husband, Banks, reside in Roswell.

Jennifer L. Herring, Board of Directors of Georgia Lottery Corp.

Herring is currently the market leader for the BB&T Midtown and Downtown Atlanta locations. She has been in the banking industry for 19 years, including 10 years at BB&T. She has served on the boards of the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and No One Alone. She has chaired the Governmental Affairs Committee for the Dahlonega Chamber and was instrumental in the creation of the Women in Lumpkin Leadership organization. She is an alumna of the Leadership Georgia Program. She and her husband, David, have one son. They reside in Murrayville.

Simeon F. Deal, Board of Directors of the Georgia Lottery Corp. (reappointment)
Deal is a senior project manager with D+H in Atlanta. He has more than 35 years of experience in both the banking and financial software services industry. Deal attended Georgia Southern University. He and his wife, Lori, have two daughters and one granddaughter. They reside in Dallas.

Martha L. Venn, Professional Standards Commission

Venn is provost at Middle Georgia State College, where she is also the founding dean of the School of Education. She served as the senior executive director for educator preparation for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Venn earned a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Western Illinois University, a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate degree in Special Education from the University of Illinois. She has three children and three grandchildren. She resides in Macon.

Vicki S. Arnold, Board of Pharmacy

Arnold currently serves as a pharmacist in the Critical Care Pharmacy at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She is a member of the Georgia Society of Health System Pharmacists and has served as president of the University of Georgia Pharmacy Alumni Association and the Lanier Pharmacy Association. Arnold earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Mark, have one child. They reside in Gainesville.
