Deal appoints five to boards

Milton A. Raven, Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (reappointment)

Raven is the director of Colam/Project SAVE Inc. Job Training Center and owner of Mimmie’s Diner in Plains. He previously served as a principal of Webster County Schools and as a teacher in both Worth and Webster counties. He is a member of Rosalyn Carter Care-net, a life-member trustee of Georgia Southwestern State University and a former board member of Koinonia Partners. Raven earned a bachelor’s degree from Albany State University and a master’s degree from Atlanta University. He and his wife, Willie Bell, have three children, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. They reside in Americus.

Corinna Magelund, Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (reappointment)

Magelund has served as Gov. Nathan Deal’s Disability Services Ombudsman and Olmstead Coordinator since June 2011. Magelund chairs the Olmstead Planning Committee, serves as secretary on the Behavioral Health Coordinating Council and its Executive Committee and is a member of the First Lady’s Georgia Children’s Cabinet. She co-chairs the Health Committee of the U.S. Ombudsman Association. Previously, she worked in the office of Gov. Sonny Perdue, for the Republican Governors Association and at the state Department of Community Affairs. A native of Camilla, Magelund is an Atlanta resident and a graduate of Valdosta State University.

Shelley Clark Nickel, Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission

Nickel is the vice chancellor for planning for the Board of Regents, University System of Georgia. She has previously served as interim president of Gordon State College, director of the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and president of the Georgia Student Finance Commission. Nickel holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Penn State University. She resides in Roswell.

Norma Nunez-Cortes, Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission

Nunez-Cortes is the Title I federal programs director for Appling County Board of Education. She is past-president of the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce, where she currently serves as a board member. She also serves as a board member of the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission and Appling County Family Connections. She is a member of Lions’s Club, Kiwanis Club, Appling County Board of Health, FACS Program Development Team, Emergency Food and Shelter and Telamon HSEAC. Nunez-Cortes earned a master’s degree in School Counseling from Georgia Southern University and a specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. She is a graduate of the Georgia Academy for Economic Development. She and her husband, Juan, have two daughters. They reside in Baxley.

Robert Lee Todd IV, Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission

Todd is a general practice attorney in Greenville. He has served as local counsel to the Meriwether County School District for more than 25 years. He is a former adjunct instructor of Business Law at LaGrange College. He is a member of the Meriwether County Department of Public Safety, has served as chief of station one of the Meriwether County Volunteer Fire Department and chief of the city of Greenville Volunteer Fire Department for more than 25 years. Todd earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a law degree from Samford University. He and his wife, Martha Ann, have two children and two grandchildren. They reside in Greenville.
