Deal announces judicial appointments
Gov. Nathan Deal today announced the appointments of Suzanne H. Smith to the Superior Court judgeship within the Cherokee Judicial Circuit and Verda M. Colvin to the Superior Court judgeship within the Macon Judicial Circuit. The vacancy within the Cherokee Judicial Circuit was created by the resignation of the Hon. Shepherd L. Howell. The vacancy within the Macon Judicial Circuit was created by the resignation of the Hon. S. Phillip Brown. The appointments are effective upon swearing in.
Suzanne H. Smith, Cherokee Judicial Circuit Superior Court
Smith currently serves as Municipal Court judge of the city of Calhoun, judge pro tempore for the Gordon County Juvenile Court, and as the county attorney for Gordon County. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Berry College and her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. She and her husband, Nathan, have one child and reside in Calhoun.
Verda M. Colvin, Macon Judicial Circuit Superior Court
Colvin currently serves as Assistant United States Attorney within the Middle District of Georgia. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Sweet Briar College in Virginia and her law degree from the University of Georgia. She has two children and resides in Macon.
