Deal appoints two to boards

David Morrow, Georgia Council for the Arts 
Morrow is director of the Morehouse College Glee Club, conducts the Wendell Whalum Community Chorus, is artistic director and conductor of the Atlanta Singers, and co-directs the Morehouse-Spelman Chorus. He is outgoing president of the National Association of Negro Musicians and serves on the board of directors of the Intercollegiate Men's Choruses, Inc. He is a member of Metropolitan Atlanta Musicians Association, the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America, the Georgia Music Educators Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Morrow has led performances in such widely varying venues as Atlanta’s Symphony Hall with Jessye Norman, the opening ceremonies of Super Bowl XXVIII with Natalie Cole and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Atlantic Centennial Olympic Games. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, a master’s degree in Music from the University of Michigan and a doctorate degree in Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music. He and his wife, Karan, reside in Atlanta. 
 
Maxine Burton, Georgia Council for the Arts 
Burton is the president and chief operating officer of burton + BURTON, a balloon, floral supply and home décor distributor in Bogart. She was a public school teacher prior to founding burton + BURTON. She currently serves on the board of directors of First American Bank & Trust and served on the Georgia Ports Authority from 2002 through 2013. She is an active member of the Committee of 200, the Women’s Leadership Board of Harvard University, the Society of International Business Fellows, and has recently been inducted into CEO. Burton earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Robert, have two grown children and three grandchildren, all residing in Athens.
