Deal appoints 12 to boards

Stephens retired from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 2012 after more than 31 years of service. He currently serves as an assistant chief of police of field operations for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. Stephens earned a bachelor’s degree from Newberry College and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Command College, and the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange. He and his wife, Laura, have two children. They reside in Cleveland.  

 

Yarbrough is a retired vice president of BellSouth Corp. and was later a managing director of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. He is currently a syndicated newspaper columnist. Yarbrough is a graduate of the University of Georgia and past president of the National Alumni Association. He and his wife, Jane, have two children, three grandchildren and one great-grandson. They reside in Atlanta. 

 

Branch was appointed to the Georgia Court of Appeals on July 25, 2012, by Gov. Deal. Prior to her appointment, she was a partner in the litigation department at Smith, Gambrell, & Russell, LLP. From 2004-2008, she was a senior official in the administration of President George W. Bush. She served as the associate general counsel for rules and legislation at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and then as the counselor to the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. Branch earned a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College and a law degree from Emory University. She resides in Atlanta. 

 

Abbot currently serves as judge of the superior court of Chatham County, Eastern Judicial Circuit. She was appointed in October 2000 and elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010. She is past president of the Savannah Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Foundation. She is past chairman of the Uniform Rules Committee of the Council of Superior Court Judges. She has served as secretary-treasurer and president-elect of the Council of Superior Court Judges and will take office as president on May 1. Abbot earned a bachelor’s degree from Augusta College and a law degree from the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Gil, have two children. They reside in Savannah. 

 

Key has been a part-time juvenile court judge in Troup County since 1989. He has been in private law practice since 1979 and is currently practicing at Key, Gordy & Key, PC. Key serves on the Georgia Supreme Court Committee on Justice for Children. He previously served as chairman of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, as president of the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges, and as president of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Key earned a bachelor’s degree from Troy State University, a master’s degree from Auburn University, and a law degree from Emory University. He and his wife, Melanie, have two children and three grandchildren. They reside in LaGrange. 

 

Clay is a partner with Gregory, Doyle, Calhoun & Rogers, LLC. He is a former assistant district attorney for Cobb County and former Cobb County commissioner. He was elected to the state Senate from the 37th District in 1988 and completed six terms. He previously served as chairman of the Republican Party of Georgia. He is a graduate of Leadership Cobb and Leadership Georgia, and has been a director of numerous civic and business organizations such as the University of Georgia Law School Alumni Association, Common Cause Georgia, Georgia Appleseed Foundation, Southern Polytechnic University Foundation, Vinings Bank and Gridiron. Clay earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina and a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Sara, have five children and three grandchildren. They reside in Marietta.

 

Rambo has served as the juvenile court judge for the Southwestern Judicial Circuit (Lee, Macon, Schley, Stewart, Sumter and Webster counties) since 2001. She has served as a district representative for the Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia and on the advisory board for the Office of Child Advocate. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a law degree from Mercer University. She resides in Americus with her husband, William, and two daughters. 

 

Baldwin is chief judge of the Coweta Judicial Circuit. He has practiced law in LaGrange for more than 26 years. He served as the juvenile court judge of Troup County for five years and as a member of the state Senate for eight years. He currently serves on the LaGrange College Board of Trustees and as a certified lay speaker for the LaGrange District of the United Methodist Church. Baldwin earned a bachelor’s degree from North Georgia College, a law degree from Mercer University and is an army veteran. He and his wife, Judy, have three children and five grandchildren. They reside in LaGrange. 

 

Tutterow is a professor of Economics at Mercer University. He has given numerous lectures and testimony on policy matters before the Georgia General Assembly and the Georgia Public Service Commission. Tutterow earned a bachelor’s degree from Berry College, a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in Economics from Georgia State University. He resides in Smyrna. 

 

Campbell currently serves as judge of the Fulton County Superior Court. Prior to serving, he practiced law for 40 years and served as a member of the state House of Representatives for 15 years. Campbell earned a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Martha, have one daughter. They reside in Roswell. 

 

Fisher is the human resources manager with Sugar Foods Corp., Villa Rica. She serves on the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce’s Blue Ribbon Task Force. She previously served as committee chair of the Tidewater Association of Service Contractors in Norfolk, Va. Fisher earned a career studies certificate from Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Va. She and her husband, Steven, have two children. They reside in Villa Rica. 

 

Surber is senior vice president and chief information officer for AGL Resources. He is an active member of the Atlanta community through his service to organizations such as the United Way of Greater Atlanta. He is chair of the Technology Advisory Council of the American Gas Association, a graduate of the ARC Regional Leadership Institute and a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2013. Surber earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Yancey, live in Roswell with their three children.
