Phil Jones, Georgia Southern University’s Herty Center Advisory Board
Jones is the director of New Ventures and Disruptive Technologies for Imerys. He has been with Imerys (formerly English China Clays) for 38 years. He co-chairs the Agenda 2020 Technology Alliance Program’s Nanotechnology Committee and is a member of the Consultative Board for Advancing Nanotechnology. Jones earned a bachelor’s degree and doctorate degree from the University of London. He and his wife, Kristine, have three children. They reside in Woodstock.
G. Scott McCoy, Georgia Southern University Herty Center Advisory Board
McCoy retired as a grain merchandising specialist with White Commercial Corp. in 2009, but remains active as a third-generation tree farmer. He has served as a board member of Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, Brentwood School in Sandersville, First Federal Savings & Loan, and Chem-Nut, Inc. McCoy earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. He and his wife, Pendery, have two children and four grandchildren. They reside in Sandersville.
Trip Tollison, Georgia Southern University Herty’s Center Advisory Board
Tollison serves as acting president and chief executive officer of the Savannah Economic Development Authority and World Trade Center Savannah. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of USO Savannah, America’s Second Harvest Food Bank, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of the Coastal Empire and Savannah Technical College Foundation. Tollison is the Honorary Small Wing Commander for the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, and is a graduate of Leadership Savannah and Leadership Georgia. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Tracey, have two children. They reside in Savannah.
Joseph R. Johnson Jr., State Commission on Family Violence
Johnson is the solicitor-general for the State Court of Ware County. He is a partner in the law firm of Thomas & Johnson, PC. Johnson is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he serves as the seventh grade Sunday school teacher and is a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a volunteer firefighter for the Ware County Fire Department. Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University and a law degree from University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He and his wife, Angie, have two daughters. They reside in Waycross.
Juanita P. Stedman, State Commission on Family Violence
Stedman has served as a Cobb County Juvenile Court judge since 2000. She has practiced law in Cobb County since 1988, following distinguished service as a special education teacher in Mitchell and Baker counties. She was awarded as Marietta’s 2009 Citizen of the Year and recognized as the 2012 Jack Vaughn Cobb County Humanitarian of the Year. Stedman holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree and a law degree from Georgia State University. She and her husband, Hugh, have two children. They reside in Marietta.
Amanda H. Mercier, State Commission on Family Violence
Mercier is currently one of three Superior Court judges in the Appalachian Judicial Circuit. She is the presiding judge of the Appalachian Judicial Court’s Mental Health Court. Prior to her appointment, she was a partner in the law firm of David E. Ralston. Mercier earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Syracuse University. She and her husband, Joseph, have one daughter. They reside in Blue Ridge.
Philip T. Raymond III, State Commission on Family Violence
Raymond is currently a Superior Court judge for the Macon Judicial Circuit. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia for more than 33 years. He is a founding member and master emeritus in the William Augustus Bootle Inn of Court. Raymond earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and law degree from Mercer University. He and his wife, Susan, have three children and one grandchild. They reside in Macon.
Denise Marshall, State Commission on Family Violence (reappointment)
Marshall was elected to the Superior Court of Dougherty County in November 2008. Prior to serving on the Superior Court bench, she served as associate State Court judge and magistrate for Dougherty County from 1998 to 2008. She serves on the Girl’s Inc. Board of Directors and is a member of the Albany Rotary Club. Marshall earned a bachelor’s degree from Spelman College and a law degree from the University of Georgia. She has one daughter. They reside in Albany.
Alfred W. “Bill” Jones, Board of Natural Resources
Jones is currently the chairman emeritus and senior adviser of Sea Island Acquisitions. He is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Sea Island Co. Alfred previously served as chairman of the Georgia Ports Authority board and the Georgia Research Alliance Board of Trustees. He served as honorary chairman of the G8 Summit Host Committee and as a trustee of the University of Georgia Foundation and the Nature Conservancy of Georgia. Jones has received Ernest & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award and Georgia Trend Magazine’s Georgian of the Year award. He has also been awarded the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Rock Howard Award. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University. He and his wife, Sally, reside on St. Simons Island.
Kelvin J. Cochran, Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council
Cochran is currently fire chief of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. He previously served as the U.S. Fire Administrator for the Obama administration. Cochran is president of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association. He previously served as first vice president and second vice president for the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Cochran earned a bachelor’s degree from Wiley College and a master’s degree from Louisiana Tech University. He and his wife, Carolyn, have three children. They reside in Atlanta.
B.K. Mohan, Georgia Composite Medical Board
Mohan is the founding partner of Southern Heart Specialists, a keystone cardiology practice serving the Southern Crescent community for 35 years. He has been actively engaged in the medical community providing cardiology services and strategic leadership to Piedmont Henry Hospital, Southern Regional Medical Center, and South Fulton Medical Center. He served on the Clayton County Health Education Board and as chairman of the Indian Professional Association. Mohan earned a bachelor’s degree at National College (India) and a medical degree from Gulbarga Medical College (India). He and his wife, Raja, have two children and two grandchildren. They reside in Jonesboro.
