Criminal Justice Reform report released

 

Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and House Speaker David Ralston today released this year’s report from the Criminal Justice Reform Council. Building on the success of the landmark criminal justice reform passed in the 2012 session, in its second year, the council focused on potential reforms in the state’s juvenile justice system. 

 

“I wanted to build on the significant advances our state made in 2012, and the council has again offered up an excellent report that will serve as a starting point for policy makers. We know there’s room for dramatic improvement in the results we see in the juvenile justice system. I will work with legislators to find new solutions that provide better outcomes for public safety, for our youth and for taxpayers.”

 

“I appreciate the diligent work of the Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform for Georgians and applaud Governor Deal for his leadership on this complicated and critically important issue. Keeping our citizens safe and holding those who do wrong accountable is one of government’s most solemn responsibilities. These recommendations will be thoroughly debated during the upcoming legislative session where we have the opportunity to build on the reforms from last year.”
