Deal appoints 12 to boards
Philip S. Jacobs, Professional Standards Commission (reappointment)
Jacobs is a founding partner in the Pendleton Consulting Group and a senior consultant for Coxe Curry and Associates. Prior to his current roles, Jacobs spent 34 years with BellSouth and AT&T. He currently serves on boards for the CDC Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Aquarium, Teach for America, AdvancED and the Georgia Historical Society. He is also a member of the downtown Atlanta Rotary Club. A native of the Washington, D.C., area, Jacobs is a graduate of the Landon School and received his undergraduate degree from Denison University. He and his wife, Jenny, live in Atlanta. They have three children and four grandchildren.
Pamela J. Walker, Professional Standards Commission (reappointment)
Walker is presently the Douglas County School Improvement Specialist for Science (K-12). She has worked with the Douglas County School System since 1990 as a science teacher at Alexander High School and a county instructional coach. In 2007, Walker was selected as the Georgia Teacher of the Year. She is a member of the Professional Association for Georgia Educators and National Science Teachers Association. She also serves as a certified facilitator of Learning Focused Strategies as well as Differentiated Techniques. Additionally, she is the co-author of more than 30 science books, one of which (Crime Scene Investigations for High School) was a best-seller featured in the Wall Street Journal. Walker received her bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University and a master’s and educational specialist degree from Georgia Southern University. She resides in Villa Rica.
Sheryl E. Stalvey, Professional Standards Commission
Stalvey teaches sixth grade reading at Willie J. Williams Middle School. She earned County Teacher of the Year in two Georgia counties. She published an article in the Journal of At Risk Issues and served on the English Language Arts Advisory Committee with the Georgia Department of Education. Stalvey earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s degree from Valdosta State University. She and her husband, Dewey, have four children and four grandchildren. They reside in Moultrie.
D. Scott Justus, Professional Standards Commission
Justus is currently the assistant principal and athletics director at West Hall High School. He has been active in education for more than 17 years and has also served in various rolls with football and baseball programs throughout the county. Justus is a member of the Gainesville/Hall County United Way where he has served on the Campaign Committee and is currently serving on the Community Investment Committee. He received a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern College and State University, a master’s degree in Physical Education from North Georgia College and State University, and specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University. He and his wife, Dawn, have one son. They reside in Gainesville.
Kamila B. Luigs, Professional Standards Commission
Luigs works for General Electric serving as the program manager for the GE Foundation Developing Futures in Education program. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Children’s Museum of Atlanta and the Georgia Foundation for Public Education. Luigs earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law. She and her husband, Tony, have two children. They reside in Marietta.
Kathy A. McCaffrey, State Board of Cosmetology
McCaffrey is currently the owner of Kathy Adams Salon in Buford. Founded in 1999, Kathy Adams Salon has been recognized six times on America’s Top 200 Fastest Growing Salons by Salon Today magazine and has been voted “Best of Gwinnett” for the past two years. McCaffrey is a graduate of the Cobb Beauty College and has been a licensed cosmetologist for more than 24 years. She has also served on the Cosmetology Advisory Board for Gwinnett Technical College. She has two sons. McCaffrey and her husband, Adam, reside in Dacula.
Amy E. Gatch, State Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (reappointment)
Gatch works for Fulton County Schools as a preschool speech and language diagnostician and previously worked at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She is a member of the Junior League of Atlanta, Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a master’s of Science from Florida State University in Communication Disorders. She and her husband, Zachary, have one child. They reside in Smyrna.
Holly S. Kaplan, State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (reappointment)
Kaplan currently serves as the undergraduate coordinator for the Communication Sciences Program at the University of Georgia, where she teaches, supervises clinical trials and provides audiology services in the University’s Speech and Hearing Clinic. She is a member of Educational Testing Services Audiology Advisory Council, the UGA College of Education’s Academic Appeals Committee, the Georgia Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Kaplan earned her bachelor’s degree from Bradley University, her master’s from Gallaudet College and her doctorate from the University of Florida. She and her husband, Ray, have two children and live in Bogart.
Erica A. Chatelain, State Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Chatelain is a speech-language pathologist and lead special education teacher in Bibb County. She served as president of the Georgia Speech-Language Hearing Association in 2009-2010, as well as numerous other positions within the organization since 2003. Chatelain earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Valdosta State University. She is currently pursuing her education specialist degree from Valdosta State University. She and her husband, Daniel, have two children. They reside in Macon.
Miranda R. Pritcher-Ross, State Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Pritcher-Ross is currently the director of Audiology at the Georgia Health Sciences University. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association and a member of the Georgia Academy of Audiology. She received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University and a doctorate in Audiology from the University of Pittsburgh. She and her husband, Jason, reside in Martinez.
Lawrence H. (Dan) Davis, Jr., State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
Davis is a civil engineer licensed in Georgia and Alabama. He is also a certified LEED professional for his work with green projects. Davis is currently the president and CEO of Integrated Science and Engineering based in Peachtree City. He is past chair of the board of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership and also serves on the Environment and Land Use Committee for the Atlanta Regional Commission. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University. Davis and his wife, Monique, have four children. They reside in Brooks.
M. Jason Murphy, State Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Dispensers
Murphy owns American Hearing Aid Center of Thomasville and manages Audibel Hearing Aid Centers in Valdosta and Tifton. He is a member of the Georgia Hearing Society and Thomasville Exchange Club. Murphy earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Georgia in 2001 and became a Georgia Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist in November 2002. He and his wife, Heather, reside in Valdosta.
