Caudell appointed judge in Mountain Circuit

Gov. Nathan Deal today appointed Chan Caudell to the Superior Court of the Mountain Judicial Circuit. Caudell fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Linton K. Crawford Jr. and takes effect upon swearing in. The circuit includes Habersham, Rabun and Stephens counties.

Caudell is a practicing attorney at Caudell & Hotard, LLC, in Cornelia and serves on the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Committee. Caudell was admitted to the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Federal District Court, Northern District of Georgia, in 1992. He was later admitted to the Eleventh Circuit Federal Court of Appeals in 1997. Caudell served as Habersham County commissioner from 2003 to 2004. He serves as vice chair on the board of directors for North Georgia Technical College, vice chair of Common Cause Georgia, the State Bar of Georgia Advisory Committee on Legislation and on the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America Northeast Georgia Council. Caudell is also on the editorial board of Calendar Call, the state bar’s publication, a charter member of the Chattahoochee Inn of Court and a member of the Mountain Judicial Circuit Bar Association. He is a member of the Habersham County Rotary Club, a deacon at First Baptist Church of Cornelia and a member of several local philanthropic chapters, including the American Red Cross. He and his wife, Tammy, are members of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2009; he served as program chair of the Brasstown Valley Leadership Georgia 2010. Caudell earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He and his family reside in Cornelia.
