Deal appoints 10 to boards

James K. Hussey, Jr., State Board of Veterans Service
Hussey serves as vice president for enlisted affairs for the 3rd Greater Augusta Chapter Association of the U.S. Army, Southeast Region, and is a highly decorated Army veteran. He ended his 30 year career as the Fort Gordon Signal Corps Regimental, Command Sergeant Major (CSM). He has also served as the CSM for the Georgia National Guard’s State Defense Force and is past president of the AUSA. Hussey holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of New York and a master’s in Education from Boston University. He and his wife, Kim, have one daughter and one granddaughter.They reside in Appling.

Roy N. Roberts, Stone Mountain Memorial Association
Roberts is the owner and operator of Nunnally Farms, a Hereford cattle operation. He is a former county commissioner for Walton County and a founder of Leadership Georgia. He is currently the chairman of the Walton County Republican Party. Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky, where he was an academic all-SEC basketball player. He and his wife, Suzanne, have four children and 10 grandchildren. They reside in Monroe.

James L. Allen, Georgia Forestry Commission
Allen is a former professional golfer and founder of Allen, Pritchett, and Bassett, LLP, a certified accounting firm. He is now co-owner of Pike Creek Turf, Inc., a turfgrass production and installation company. He is a member of the Tift Regional Medical Center Board, Community Foundation Board of South Georgia, Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Forestry Family Association. Allen served on Gov. Zell Miller’s Commission on Effectiveness and Economy in Government and the Board of Human Resources. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Valdosta State University. He and his wife, Quay, have two children and five granddaughters. They reside in Chula.

Gerry P. Harkins, State Workforce Investment Board
Harkins is a partner in Southern Pan Service Co., a concrete formwork and frame construction company. He was a commercial construction subcontractor for nearly 30 years and is currently the CEO of various real estate partnerships. He serves on the Special Council on Tax Reform and Fairness for Georgians and the Workers Compensation Advisory Council. Harkins graduated from Georgia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management. He and his wife, Dianne, have three children and reside in McDonough.

Bennie F. Hinson, Jr., Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission (Reappointment)
Hinson is president and founder of Mid Georgia Ambulance Service. He is a member of the American Ambulance Association, the Macon Rotary Club, the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council, the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University, and was a founding member of the Georgia EMS Directors Association. He served as chairman of the Georgia Board of Economic Development, chairman of Overseers of Ingleside Baptist Church, president and chairman of the American Ambulance Association and chair of the Georgia Board of Public Safety memorial committee. Hinson earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. He and his wife, Vicki, have two children and five grandchildren. They reside in Macon.

Sarah C. Cipperly, Georgia Commission on Family Violence
Cipperly is a staff attorney with Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. She is director of its pro bono project, the Cobb Justice Foundation. She also runs the Cobb Family Violence Temporary Protective Order Project, which provides free legal assistance for victims of family violence. Cipperly is the immediate past chair of the State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division Intrastate Moot Court Competition, the immediate past president of the Cobb Bar Younger Lawyers Section and currently serves as a trustee at-large on the Cobb Bar Board of Trustees. She graduated from Skidmore College and earned her law degree from Emory University. She and her husband, Daniel, reside in Marietta with their daughter. 

Marla S. Moore, Georgia Commission on Family Violence
Moore is the director of the administrative office of the courts. She currently serves on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education, the Bench and Bar Committee, the Board of Trustees of Emory University Visitors and is president of the Georgia Council of Court Administrators. She is a member of the Conference of State Court Administrators, the National Association of Court Administration and the National Association of Women Judges. Moore has a bachelor’s degree in History and a master’s in Political Science from Pittsburg State University. She is a graduate of the Judicial Education Leadership Institute and the 2000 fellowship program at the Institute for Court Management. She and her husband, Richard, have two daughters and one grandson. They reside in Atlanta.

Robert K. McBrayer, Georgia Commission on Family Violence
McBrayer has been a law enforcement professional for more than 35 years with the Henry County Sheriff’s Department and was elected sheriff of Henry County in 2008. He serves on the board of directors for the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes, Connecting Henry, Youth Leadership Henry and the Boys Scouts Flint River Council. McBrayer also serves as a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee for the Southern Crescent Technical College. He and his wife, Susan, have two daughters and one grandson. They reside in Hampton. 

Melvin Stowers, State Workforce Investment Board
Stowers is president of Stowers & Company, a commercial and industrial real estate company founded in 1988. He is a founding and lifetime member of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors. He is a past president of the North Cobb Rotary Club and former Rotary board member for more than 10 years. Stowers currently serves as president of the board for Mountain Top Boys Home, a facility for the care of disadvantaged youth, in Sugar Valley. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Elaine, have three children. They reside in Kennesaw.

William R. Howard, Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority
Howard currently serves as chairman of the Sumter County Commission. For the past 11 years, he has worked for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency as the waste isolation pilot plant coordinator. He is a former Sumter County Emergency Management Agency director and sheriff. Howard also worked in the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department for more than 31 years. He is a graduate of the Georgia Peace Officer and Standards Law Enforcement Academy and the Georgia Sheriff Elect Academy. He and his wife, Donna, have three sons and four grandchildren. They reside in Cobb.
