Deal names 11 to boards
Randall P. Smith, Board of Human Services (Reappointment)
Smith has been employed with Chick-fil-A for 26 years and is a senior management consultant in operations and responsible for all catering sales. He has served at his local church, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, for the past 20 years. He also serves as a director for Grace Summit and Global Resource Services, and he leads teams from Winshape International to China and Vietnam to teach leadership principles. Smith earned Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in economics and management in 1976 from Georgia College and State University and has additional leadership training from Washington University, American Society of Quality, the Juran Institute, the Wharton School of Business and the U.S. Army War College. He and his wife, Wendy, have three children and reside in Marietta.
James S. Singletary, Georgia Development Authority
Singletary is the managing partner in the family business, Singletary Farms. He also serves as chairman of the board of Bank of Early. Singletary has served as the district supervisor for Early County on the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation Board for 31 years and served on the state board for eight years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia in agricultural economics. He and his wife, Liza, have two daughters and two grandchildren and reside in Blakely.
Michael J. Terrell, County and Municipal Probation Advisory Council
Terrell currently serves as Chief State Court Probation Officer for Coweta County and has been employed by the county for 14 years. He received a degree in criminal justice from the University of West Georgia. Terrell is a member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the American Probation and Parole Association and the Georgia Probation Association. He is also a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children and reside in Newnan.
Ray S. Smith, Stone Mountain Memorial Association (Reappointment)
Smith is a commercial, real estate, and probate litigation attorney with a national practice in areas including real estate law, land use matters, commercial law, probate law, business and employment litigation, election law and creditor bankruptcy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and speech communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from Mercer University School of Law. Smith has served as special assistant to the attorney general of the state of Georgia. He was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue to the Governor’s Committee for Sandy Springs, where he served as a commissioner and vice chair. Smith was also originally appointed by Perdue to the Stone Mountain Memorial Association where he chairs the development committee and is being reappointed by Gov. Deal for his third term. He and his wife, Lynn, have two children and reside in Atlanta.
Wayne C. Edwards, Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame Board
Edwards is the president of the Southeast Capital Investment Group, LLC and a financial adviser with Raymond James Financial Services. A retired colonel and U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, he received extensive military training and post-graduate education while living and traveling throughout Europe and Asia. Edwards was named one of the Top 50 bank representatives nationally by Bank Investment Consultant Magazine. He was also a member of the Raymond James Chairman’s Council in 2004 and Leader’s Council from 2005 to 2010. He serves as a member of the Valdosta/Lowndes County Airport Authority, a trustee of the Georgia Methodist Foundation and is a past chairman and current trustee of the Valdosta State University Foundation. He and his wife, Michelle, have two daughters and reside in Valdosta.
Robert G. Ripley, Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame Board
Ripley retired from Delta Air Lines as the duty manager for the Atlanta line maintenance operation. He has owned and operated Southern Aero Services since 1984, specializing in the maintenance of Beech single and twin piston engine aircraft. Ripley is associated with the American Bonanza Society and the Air Safety Foundation as a technical adviser and a Beech service clinic inspector. He has an Airline Transport pilot rating, flight instructor rating, Airframe and Powerplant mechanic rating and inspection authorization. He and his wife, Hazel, have two children and reside in Griffin.
Jennifer C. Gunter, Georgia Board of Massage Therapy
Gunter studied massage therapy at Gwinnett College in Lilburn and graduated summa cum laude in 2008. Upon graduation, she started Gwinnett Massage Clinic in Lawrenceville where she treats clients using neuromuscular therapies. Gunter is involved in numerous charity organizations and donates her services to many fund-raising events. She also holds an elected position on the Margaret Winn Holt Elementary School Council, where her son Garrison is a student. She resides in Lawrenceville.
John C. Foster, Education Commission of the States
Foster served as a state senator from 1975 to 1993. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Piedmont College and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree. He has been a trustee of Piedmont College for more than 25 years. During his tenure as state senator, Foster chaired the Education Committee for 16 years. He served as commissioner of the Education Commission of the States from 1982 until 1993 along with his involvement in other national and regional education organizations. Foster has also served on Board of Corrections and Georgia State Board of Education. He and his wife, Bobbie, reside in Cornelia.
William S. Schofield, Education Commission of the States
A graduate of the University of Georgia serving his 24th year in public education, Schofield has served as a high school mathematics teacher, assistant principal, principal and superintendent of three school systems. Schofield serves on numerous boards and organizations and has been awarded the “National Leader of the Year” award by the National Association of Gifted Children. Schofield and his wife, Joy, reside in Gainesville with their three children.
Kathy Colbenson, Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism
Colbenson is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has been CEO of CHRIS Kids since 1987. CHRIS Kids is an innovative nonprofit that unlocks human potential. The CHRIS Kids mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community. Over the years, Colbenson has served in a number of volunteer leadership positions with Leadership Atlanta, the Child Welfare League of America, the National Alliance to End Homelessness and various Georgia-based behavioral health and child welfare initiatives. Colbenson is involved in a variety of charities and philanthropic causes. She and her husband, Pete, live in East Atlanta and have two daughters.
Harold F. Seagraves, Georgia Board of Massage Therapy
Seagraves served as a regional sales representative with Philip Morris Tobacco Co. for three years covering the northeastern part of Georgia. He then purchased and operated Freddy’s Quick Serve in Gainesville from 1980 to 1999. Seagraves is now retired and involved with real estate rental properties and enjoys playing music with his lifelong band of 48 years, The Jesters Band. He and his wife, Paula, have two children and two grandchildren and reside in Murrayville.
