Deal appoints six to boards
Tommy D. Black: Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists: Division of Professional Counselors
Black is co-owner and clinical director of Darsey, Black & Associates, LLC, and has been licensed as a professional counselor in Georgia since 2001. He has been providing clinical mental health services to southeast Georgia since 1998. Black is on the advisory board and serves as the chair of the Policy and Procedures Committee of the National Board of Forensic Evaluators. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Tampa before relocating to Georgia and completing his graduate work. He and his wife of 16 years, Trang, have twins, Thomas “Eli” and Taryn, and currently live in Hinesville.
Jace G. Weaver, Council on American Indian Concerns
Weaver is the Franklin Professor of Religion and Native American Studies at the University of Georgia. He is also the director of the Institute of Native American Studies and has been the author or editor of 10 books. Weaver earned his bachelor’s degree from the Columbia College of Columbia University, his law degree from Columbia Law School, and his doctorate from Union Theological Seminary in New York. His wife, Laura, also teaches at UGA, and they reside in Winterville.
James H. Reese, Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism
Reese is president and CEO of Atlanta Mission, the city’s longest-running and largest provider of homeless services in Atlanta. He spent the majority of his career in corporate America, successfully leading teams and moving companies to higher productivity, profitability and service. Reese’s successful career in the business world included positions as CEO of Randstad North America, COO of HoneyBaked Ham and division vice president of Frito-Lay. A graduate of Western Michigan University, Reese now lives in Roswell with his wife, Dina. They have three grown daughters and are expecting their first grandchild.
Malcolm S. Moore Jr., Medical Advisory Panel for the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission
Moore is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist practicing at Eye Center of Central Georgia in Macon. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi where he graduated summa cum laude. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where he finished first in his class and also served as president of his medical school class and the student body. Since finishing his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, he has practiced Ophthalmology in Macon. He has served as president of the Bibb County Medical Society, the Georgia Society of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. Moore currently serves on the board of directors of the Medical Association of Georgia and is a member of the Finance Committee and Counsel on Legislation at the Medical Association of Georgia. He holds the position of clinical assistant professor in the department of surgery at Mercer University School of Medicine. He has two daughters, Madison and Marion, and resides in Macon.
C. Scott Johnson, Stone Mountain Memorial Association
Johnson is currently senior vice president of Financial Supermarkets, Inc., of Cornelia. He serves on the board of the Georgia Department of Human Services and is chairman and board member of Republican Leadership for Georgia. He is also the former chairman of the Cobb County Republican Party and a member of the Cobb County Transportation SPLOST Oversight Committee. Johnson is a deacon at Gateway International Church of God in Kennesaw and a graduate of both Leadership Cobb and the Coverdell Leadership Institute. He attended Shelby State College in Memphis. He and his wife, Janet, reside in Marietta and have three children and three grandchildren.
Mark E. Chastain, State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (Reappointment)
Chastain is a practicing land surveyor in Ellijay. He is the owner of Chastain & Associates, P.C., which provides surveying, planning and consulting services through the Atlanta, Gainesville and Georgia mountain regions. Chastain served one term as the Gilmer County Surveyor and two terms on the Gilmer County Commission. He was first appointed to this board in 2003, reappointed in 2006, and was also appointed by the Secretary of State to the Advisory Committee on Disputed County Boundaries in 2008. Chastain earned an associate degree from the Southern College of Technology in Civil Engineering Technology. He and his wife, Donna, have three daughters and reside in Ellijay.
