Child Welfare Reform Council

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Georgia’s Child Welfare Reform Council. Modeled after our successful Criminal Justice Reform Council, I created this council with the purpose of completing a comprehensive review of the Division of Family and Children Services and to advise me on possible executive agency reforms and legislative fixes if necessary. The members of this council all have expertise in the child welfare arena and I am thankful they have accepted the challenge to improve our child welfare system and better protect Georgia’s most vulnerable citizens. I am looking forward to hearing the recommendations of the council at the end of the year.

I am honored and excited that Governor Deal has entrusted me to chair this very important Council. I want to thank the council members for their commitment and dedication to serving the children of Georgia. Their time and service to this council truly gives us the opportunity to create a new vision for child welfare in our state. Our council members come from diverse backgrounds including healthcare, law enforcement, education, and government among others. Their backgrounds will allow them to bring unique perspectives to the work of the council. I am looking forward to working with this well-versed group over the next few months and sharing our recommendations with the governor at the end of this year.
