Governor Deal declares April Child Abuse Prevention Month

Atlanta – Governor Nathan Deal today signed a proclamation declaring April “Child Abuse Prevention Month.” First Lady Sandra Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet, along with representatives from the Governor’s Office for Children and Families and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, joined the Governor in recognizing this month.  Attendees sported the color blue and carried Pinwheels for Prevention. These nationally recognized symbols help bring awareness to Georgia’s child abuse prevention initiatives. Events such as this one provide opportunities for organizations and communities to band together and become a voice for child abuse prevention.

To further the conversation about prevention, the Georgia Children’s Cabinet will kick off its SPLASH campaign Wednesday, April 1 at 10 a.m. in the North Wing of the Georgia State Capitol. First Lady Sandra Deal, Karen Cohen and Donna Hyland will provide brief remarks on the importance of water safety. They will also be joined by the Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Power, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Department of Public Health and the Department of Juvenile Justice. The statewide ‘Wear Blue Day’ will be held on Friday, April 17, and the Cabinet encourage agencies from around the state to wear blue and join the effort to spread awareness. As April draws near, visit the Facebookpage for the Governor’s Office for Children and Families for event updates.
