Deal appoints six to boards

Joseph B. Jones, Council on American Indian Concerns (reappointment)
Jones retired as sole commissioner of Lumpkin County after 24 years. Presently, he owns and operates a farm and provides consulting and marketing services to engineering firms and developers. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Mountain Regional Council, the board of directors of the Economic Development Council Small Business Administration and Loan Board, the Georgia Council on American Indian Concerns and the Lumpkin County Development Authority. He is a member of the Dahlonega Sunrise Rotary and a tribal member of the Georgia Tribe of Easter Cherokees. Jones earned an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Truett-McConnell College. He also completed business courses at North Georgia College and State University and the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Leslie, have four children, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They reside in Dahlonega.
 
David Petite, Council on American Indian Concerns (reappointment)
Petite is one of the key inventors of Wireless ad hoc network or Wireless Mesh, Technology. He is a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa tribe. He is also a founder of the Native American Intellectual Property Enterprise Council, a nonprofit organization helping Native American inventors and communities. Petite began patenting ad hoc networks in 1995 and currently has more than 30 pending. He and his wife, Candida, have one child. They reside in Atlanta.
 
Steve D. Nicklas, Council on American Indian Concerns (reappointment)
Nicklas is an associate professor of Anthropology at Gainesville State College. He has been involved in academic archaeology since 1973. Nicklas has excavated extensively in the United States, the Middle East and to a lesser extent in the United Kingdom. Nicklas earned a bachelor’s degree from Lycoming College, a master’s degree from Drew University and a doctorate degree from the Institute of Archaeology, University of London. He has two children. They reside in Cumming.
 
Donald R. Kirkland, Council on American Indian Concerns
Kirkland currently serves as a data and information specialist for the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. He also serves as a game operations manager for the Atlanta Hawks. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State University. Kirkland served on the Georgia State Student Athlete Advisory Council, is a Chief Manuelito Scholarship recipient and a four- year Varsity Collegiate Letter Winner. He resides in Atlanta. 
 
Blanche DeLoach Moreman, Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians
Moreman has worked as a Public Health Nutritionist and District Nutrition Services Director for the Georgia Department of Public Health for the past 27 years. She actively participates with the department’s Dietetic Internship Advisory Board and the Nutrition Workforce Committee. She has a long-standing history with the development of Medicaid reimbursement for public health nutrition services. She previously served on the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Children with Special Needs. She is a member of the Georgia Public Health Association and past chair of its Nutrition Section. She is a former recipient of the GPHA Nutrition Section Award. Moreman graduated from Florida State University. She is active in the Junior Service League of LaGrange and attends the LaGrange First Methodist Church. She and her husband, Frazier, have four children. They reside in LaGrange.
 
Joseph Marinelli, Hotel Motel Tax Performance Review Board
Marinelli is the president of Visit Savannah, the convention and visitors bureau for Savannah and a division of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce. He serves on a number of local, statewide and national boards of directors, including the Savannah Music Festival, the Georgia International Maritime and Trade Center Authority, the National Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus and the Destination Marketing Association International. He and his wife, Rene, have one son. They reside on Whitemarsh Island in Savannah.
