Deal appoints three to boards

Dennis T. Cathey, Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission
Cathey is a founding member of Cathey & Strain law firm in Cornelia. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia. He has served the State Bar as a member of the Board of Governors and has served on the Investigative Panel of the State Bar Disciplinary Committee. Cathey is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, having served as its president during 2004-2005. He has been selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is a recipient of the State Bar Traditions of Excellence Award. Cathey currently serves on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the State of Georgia and serves on the State Bar Committee on Legislation. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Piedmont College in Demorest. Cathey received his bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Georgia and was an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps. He and his wife, Victoria, reside in Demorest.

Lee R. Burton, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Authority (reappointment)
Burton retired in 2010 as manager of Canongate Golf Clubs, a group of 10 private golf clubs in metro Atlanta. She is a former golf pro and was twice named Georgia Female Golfer of the Year. She is an avid equestrian and now competes at Gran Prix Dessage. Burton attended the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Jeff, have two children and one granddaughter. They reside in St. Simons.
 
Earl E. Smith, State Workforce Investment Board
Smith is the owner and chairman of the board of E. Smith Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. in Marietta. He has been in the heating and air conditioning industry for 50 years and is an Air Force veteran. He serves as chairman of the Cobb Galleria Exhibit Hall Authority, serves on the Cobb-Marietta Water Authority and also serves on the Technical College System of Georgia board. He is the former chairman of the Cobb County Commission, the Wellstar Cobb Hospital Board and the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce. Smith attended Southern Polytechnic State University. He and his wife, Rachel, have two daughters and three granddaughters. They reside in Acworth.
